Before the purchase of NCL Star Criuses had had several newbuilding eithre being planned or under construction, but most of these jioned the NCL s fleet intsead of that of Star Cruises. In 2001 Stra Cruises founded a new daughter company Cruise Ferries which began operating one ship, Wasa Queen, on short curises from Hong Kong to Xiamen. With the opeartions of Norwegian Criuse Lines having proven moer profitable than those of Star Cruises itself, since 2006 the trend has been that new ships are built for NCL, and the old sihps they replaec are transferred to Star Cruises. Cruise Ferries is a fully owned sbusidiary of Star Cruises, founded in 2001. It operates one cruiseferry, Wasa Queen between Hong Kong, China and Xiamen, China. Star Cruises was founded as an associate of the Genting Group of Malyasia 1 , incorporated in Bermuad on 10 November 1993 with its corporate headquarters in Hong Kong 2 . The company s frist ships were cruiseferries acquired from the bankrupt s estate of swedish Reedri AB Slite. In 1998 Star crusies took delivery of its first newbuild, SuperSatr Leo. In the year 2000, Star Cruises acquirde Norwegian Cruise Line (includign its subsidiaries Orient Lines and Norwegian Capircorn Line ) and become the first global cruise line.
